Hello!
My name is Linka Malmin-Smith and the gray filly is Gypsy one of my adopted therapy horses. Gypsy was a gift from God as she just traveled into our life. I have 30 plus years experience with horses. Actually, I can't say how long horses have been a part of my life. What I do want to say is that they have been a constant love in my life. They have moved me, motivated me, listened to me, shared joy with me, and taught me very much about life. A day doesn't go by without them giving me joy. But the most important thing for you to know about us is why we are here.
Our Purpose
My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding and know the mystery of God, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Collosians 2:2-3
That's a tall order, but I believe that I have the gift of teaching, and with His help and the help of the horses, I purpose to encourage you to find the truth as my horses help mirror to you things about yourself that you may or may not know. This may seem a mystery to you at first, but let the symbol of my diamond horseshoe and key remind you that soon you too will start to see the hidden treasures of wisdom and knowledge that will be unlocked and revealed to you.
Education and Experience
In 2003, I signed up for a year of service with Americorp. Through Americorp, I received training and experience working in a Therapuetic Riding Facility at St. Lewis School. That year, I was certified with the Certified Horsmanship Association in three disciplines of horseback riding as an instructor teaching English, Western, and Trail Riding. This facilitated my obtaining an Associates Degree in Human Services and Addiction Counseling at Tyler Junior College. In my spare time, I rescue horses and train them to see them off to good homes.
Since that time, I have been educated in the disciplines of horsemanship and counseling by local and distant professionals such as Dr. French Wade, LCDC, Dr. Dwayne M. Cox, LCDC, Pat Parelli, and Clinton Anderson. I have a certificate of completion of many counseling workshops including those on ADHD, ADD, Addiction Counseling, Parenting, Learning Disorders, Special Needs, Strong willed child, and many more. With the help of a licensed professional Counselor, we work as an educated team to help you overcome life's little obstacles.
If you or your child currently have a counselor and feel that you may have reached a road block in your therapy, I urge you to consider this new experiential therapy that allows you to experience the great outdoors, of east texas. Speak to me and your Counselor today about working together.
My Dreams
After working for a year in this community with a specialized population, I realized that there is not very many resources for women and children in Smith County. My dream is to provide a service to especially help women and children in need.
